Abstract
The GeoNight is an activity initiated for the first time by the French National Geographical Committee at a national scale in 2017. Since 2018 promotion by EUGEO it has expanded internationally in Europe, and with support of IGU reached the global scale in 2019. The main idea of the GeoNight – one day a year to organize free and open to the public geography promotion events simultaneously around the world. 2018-2025 more than 1500 events were organized worldwide, in 2022 the Survey on the perception of geography by the public of the GeoNight was initiated by M. Tabussi, but the broader analysis, global data on the events that took place and the participants attended are lacking. Lithuanian geographical society, LGS, joined the initiative in 2019. Since then, this participatory initiative in Lithuania is investigated from the perspective of citizen science: promoting the initiative, taking an active part organizing events, collecting and analyzing the data. The article is based on the unpublished primary reports of Lithuanian GeoNight organizers provided to LGS in different formats. It contains the national review of GeoNight in period of 2019-2025, examples of specific activities and indicates the growth of popularity of this initiative, increasing in number of events, their locations and participants as well as complexity of content.
